Carnforth Station Visitor Centre

Carnforth Station Visitor Centre is only a short drive away.
The station is famous for scenes in the film "Brief Encounter", and volunteers have renovated rooms in the station back to a high standard.
During the summer the occasional, but very popular, 'steam train' days are held. |
The Carnforth Bookshop

Established in 1977 this is a large independant bookshop.
The ground floor contains an extensive selection of new books and maps.
With two floors, 14 rooms and over 100,000 books, the Second Hand Department is a veritable Aladin's cave with more subjects than you can imagine,

Kirkby Lonsdale (8½ miles)
- Kirkby Lonsdale is an unspoilt little market town about six miles east, the area being made famous by the landscapes of the painter Turner.
Lovely walks by the river - pause at 'Ruskin's View', shops, pubs and cafes.

Silverdale Art Trail
- Each year, during the last weekend in June, local artists contribute to an 'Art Trail' event throughout the village.
This popular and well supported event has a wide variety of exhibits and demonstrations to interest everyone.

Silverdale Golf Course
- Silverdale Golf Club’s 18 hole course is set in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).
Arnside (5 miles)
- About 1½ hours before high tide, there is the possibility to see a 'bore'.
Highly unpredictable in timing and size, it is probably at its most obvious during the spring tides.
The promenade at Arnside and nearby Sandside are popular venues for sea anglers, catching mainly flounders.

- Lancaster, about ten miles south, is full of historical sights, don't miss a tour around the castle, visit the cathedral and museum.
